Fig species which is native to South and South-East Asia. This evergreen tree is particularly good for bonsai training as they produce sturdy trunks, a nice branching shape and shiny leaves. Best to trim in early summer as the new leaves that subsequently grow will be smaller than the ones removed. Ours is trained in the traditional Banyan style. Great for indoors year-round, the brighter the location, the more compact the growth. 37 years old 30″ tall. Shipped in pot as shown. Suitable 10.5″x14.5″ humidity tray is recommended. Native to tropical Africa and naturalized around the world. The Tamarind is an attractive tree valued for its shade and edible fruit. Adapts well to both arid and moderately wet regions. Resilient to wind and salt spray. The Tamarind is long-lived and towers to 110 feet in the wild. Prized as bonsai due to the very attractive rough bark that it develops. The skin of the fruit pod becomes crunch when when ripe. The tasty brown pulp is sticky and sucked on like candy or can be made into a refreshing drink. It is also a popular element in Indian cooking. The taste is a mix of sweet and sour flavors. Makes a great ondoor bonsai. 19 years old. 17″ x 22″ x 28″.
